Speed Test Info
Depending upon the application, bandwidth is measured in one of two terms, bits per second (bps) and bytes per second (Bps). The notation of bytes per second typically has a capital 'B' to establish it is the term of greater value in that 8 bits are equal to 1 byte. Below is a reference chart to help make the conversion if you are not quite sure how to calculate this.
Please note: The theoretical maximum throughput that can be transferred across the line may not be representative of the speed you see when downloading files from the Internet. There are many things that will cause less than the theoretical maximum speed such as protocol, framing and application overhead in addition to latency over wide geographic distances.
| Circuit Type | Circuit Speed | Approximate Speed In Kilobytes |
| DS0 | 64 Kbps | 5-7 KBps |
| ISDN | 128 Kbps | 13-15 KBps |
| DS1/T-1 | 1.544 Mbps | 155-170 MBps |
| DS3/T-3 | 44.736 Mbps | 4.5-5.5 MBps |
| OC3 | 155.52 Mbps | 18-19.5 MBps |
